  • In Unity, most files have "settings".
  • These settings appear in the Inspector pane & can be changed.
  • Below explains the recommended settings for common file types.

Images[edit | edit source]

Image settings Images may not work with default settings.
  • Alpha Source: transparent images like ".png" need this set to "Input Texture Alpha", otherwise "None".
  • Alpha Is Transparency: transparent images need this checked.

Alpha channels are outside the scope of this documentation (see Apple's explanation).

  • Read/Write Enabled: must be checked. This should be the 1st thing you do after adding a new image file.

This needs to be checked so that the pixel data can be extracted and used in the generated track atlas.

  • Generate Mip Maps: needs to be UNchecked for sharp texture quality.

Mip maps are outside the scope of this documentation (see Valve's explanation).

  • Filter Mode: should be set to "Point (no filter)".

Texture filtering is outside the scope of this documentation (see Wikipedia's explanation).

Sounds[edit | edit source]

Sound settings
  • Load In Background: checked. Leaving this unchecked may cause the sound file to play erratically on track load.
  • Ambisonic: checked. It is still safe to try & play ambisonic sounds on non-supported software/hardware.

Ambisonics is outside the scope of this documentation (see Unity's explanation).

  • Preload Audio Data: checked. Leaving this unchecked may cause the sound file to play erratically on track load.

Models[edit | edit source]

Model settings
  • Animation Type: "Legacy". It is recommended to have only 1 animation per model file.

Attempting to play multiple animations from a single model file, will cause no animations to be played from that file.

3D model animation is outside the scope of this documentation & is specific to your modelling program.
